Car Has Lights but Will Not Start Near Skyline

The radio works, the dashboard lights up, and your car still will not start. Before a trip through the Skyline area or along Leesburg Pike, that combination can make a battery problem seem unlikely. In fact, working accessories do not rule it out.

Lights need less power than starting

A battery may have enough power for lights and electronics without being able to deliver the current needed to crank the engine. A poor electrical connection can also interfere with starting while some accessories continue to work.

Separate no cranking from no starting

If the engine does not turn, the battery, cables, starter, or starter-control circuit may need evaluation. If it turns normally but never begins running, other causes such as fuel delivery or ignition may be involved. These are different diagnostic paths. Tell the advisor what the engine actually does rather than only saying the vehicle has power.

What if it starts after a jump

That result is a clue about available electrical power, not proof that the battery is the only problem. Repeated jumps warrant a closer look at battery condition and the charging system. If your car remains unable to start, arrange roadside assistance or towing. For an intermittent problem, book testing before another failed start.
